What is the eligibility waiting period for my workers' compensation benefits?
The waiting period, or length of time you must be disabled from work due to your injury until you are eligible to receive workers compensation benefits, varies depending on the state. For additional information on the waiting period for your state, contact your claim handler or visit your state’s workers compensation website.

When will I know if my claim was accepted?

Harvey Picker Horizon Scholarship
What is the Harvey Picker Horizon Scholarship?
The Harvey Picker Horizon Scholarship Program was created to assist the dependents and spouse of a worker who has died or suffered permanent disability due to a work-related injury. It is MEMIC’s hope that these scholarship awards for higher education may help fulfill the aspirations of those whose lives have been disrupted as a result of workplace injury or death.

Who is eligible for the scholarship?
Applicants must be the spouse or dependent of a worker whose employer was insured with MEMIC at the time of his or her workplace injury. Applicants must be attending or be prepared to attend an accredited college or university in pursuit of a degree.

How do you apply for the scholarship?
To apply, applicant must complete the online form, submit three letters of recommendation and a personal statement describing the impact of the workplace injury on the life of the applicant. The online application is available from February through the end of April of each year.

How will applicants be judged?
Applications will be reviewed by a selection committee for financial need, academic performance, community involvement, other life experiences, as well as future promise. Finalists may be interviewed by a committee.

How much money is available and how will funds be awarded?
MEMIC will make awards of up to $10,000 per winner. The number of awards will be determined by the number of qualified applicants. The scholarship will be awarded in the form of a check to the institution the award winner has determined he or she will attend. Any scholarship award is, of course, over and above the benefits MEMIC has paid in medical or wage replacement benefits to the injured worker or their family.
