Where do I enter my import code?

What import code ? You will enter the employer's EIN to import the W-2 IF the employer participates AND has made the online access available .....

This year we've made importing your info into TurboTax easier than everbefore! You can successfully import your info directly from your employer. IfTurboTax doesn't recognize your employer's EIN for any reason, you'll have theoption to snap a photo of your W-2 using your smart phone.

Requirements to successfully import your W-2 directly fromyour employer

  • Your payroll provider needs to be aTurboTax Import Partner(we determine this by youremployer's EIN)
  • Your W-2 must be available for import – most are ready by February 1, and some are disabled after the April filing deadline
  • We'll need theBox 1amount from your W-2
  • You can also use the YTD (Year to Date) gross income from your year-end paystub.More info
  • In some cases, we'll need theBox d Control Numberfrom your W-2, butonlyif your payroll provider requires this for the import (not all of them do).

If you're unable to import directly from your employer, you'll have a chancetosnap a picture of your W-2using your smart phone camera.

Let's import your W-2!

  1. Open (continue) your return in TurboTax if you don't already have it open.
  2. Inside TurboTax, search for W-2 (upper- or lower case, with or without the dash) and then click the "Jump to" link in the search results.
  3. AW-2screen will open. On this screen you can add, edit or delete as necessary.
  4. Enter the 9-digit Employer ID Number from your W-2, clickContinue, and follow the onscreen instructions to import your W-2.
  5. If you're unable to import directly from your employer, you will then get an option tosnap a picture of your W-2.

If you don't have your employer's EIN or would prefer to skip the importoptions, you can open a screen tomanuallyenterthe info from your W-2 instead.

Where do I enter my import code?

Along with my W2 I got an import code (not EIN) to enter but I can't find where to enter it. Here is the text from the W2 provider:

Your code to import your W-2 data into tax prep software is: XXXXXXXX. Please copy and paste this code exactly as it appears into the area requested by your tax prep provider.

As a reminder, you can use this code with the following tax prep providers: Turbo Tax, HR Block, Credit Karma, Tax Act, Jackson Hewitt and Liberty Tax.

Where can I enter this code in TurboTax? It doesn't prompt me for it.

Where do I enter my import code?

I figured it out. You have to delete the W2 that turbotax populates automatically, do add w2 and import again. Then it will prompt you for the import code.

Not sure why you can't just click an import button on the one that is populated there already but there you go.
